Hailey Bieber Showed Us How to Perfect Olsen-Twin Waves

Hailey Bieber has done her fair share of influencing, but that doesn’t mean she can’t be influenced. The girl grew up in the early 2000s, after all—I’m sure Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were just as important to her as they were the rest of us.

In a new Instagram post, the 28-year-old showed off a series of iPhone snaps from… some sort of photoshoot (which we can’t wait to hear more about). But while we wait for the details to unfold, Bieber has her fans (Byrdie included) fed with fresh photos of some very Olsen-inspired resort waves.

Hailey Bieber’s Olsen-Esque Waves

Seeing the Rhode founder with her hair down and middle parted is by no means rare, but the natural wave and frizz situation she has going on here is something special.

“Trends swing from one extreme to the other but if done right, it always looks great in my opinion,” celebrity hairstylist Travis Ogletree, aka @treehousehair, recently told Byrdie while discussing the current rise of the beach wave. “I remember seeing Jennifer Aniston’s hair in her perfume ad from 2010 where it looked like she rolled out of the waves and air dried (and wanting to make it my whole personality— Chris McMillan’s influence knows no bounds). It was right around that time Mary-Kate and Ashley were starting to relax and roughen up their texture and allow for a slept on, naturally occurring texture.”

“Slept on” is a great way to describe Bieber’s locks, which feature the slightest bit of frizz. Had it not been for the dewy touch of Pocket Blush on her cheeks, I would’ve just assumed she slept on a silk pillowcase, rolled out of bed, ran her fingers through her hair, and decided to greet the day.

How to Get the Look

Ogletree said that the best way to get the same beachy texture is to let your hair air dry, then touch it up with minimal heat where necessary.

If you do use heat, it’ll be a fairly low-lift activity. The hair sections underneath will likely have more of the wave you’re looking for (they retain moisture and dry more slowly, leading to more pronounced texture!) so focusing on face-framing waves and the top layer of your hair will do wonders. You can also twirl your face-framing pieces around your fingers to help them on their way.

Another key from Ogletree: make sure to hydrate “with a detangler, oil, and hair cream that will add shine and hold to your natural waves.”

Do you see the sheen of Bieber’s hair? She has that part figured out. And everything else, really. Now she just needs to follow bestie Kendall Jenner’s lead and go head-to-toe in The Row.
