My highly subjective guide to the Best Rooftop bars in Rome Italy
The best rooftop bars in Rome is subjective but these are the ones I personally loved and that keep making other peoples ‘Top rooftop bars in Rome’ lists too. Think Terrazza Les Étoiles, The Court Cocktail Bar (not technically a rooftop but the views and location qualify it for me) and Hotel Chapter Roma. For me, the best rooftop bars in Rome Italy have to check off the trifecta: stunning views, service, and an elevated cocktail menu. Now I haven’t visited them all, I still have my work cut out for me there but these have been my husband and I’s hits and misses so far. The others I still need to visit are on my bucket list!

The top rooftop bars in Rome I can’t stop thinking about
I truly fell in love with Rome, where every turn reveals a new marvel and another piece of history. City rooftop bars are one of my favorite kinds of bars to visit, as you can really get to see so much of the city and get your bearings when visiting a new city.
Best rooftop bars Rome Italy | Terrazza Les Étoiles Roma
Let’s start with Terrazza Les Étoiles Roma which spans the sixth, seventh, and eighth floors of the four-star Atlante Star Hotel and is close to the Vatican with a 360 degree view over Rome. This Rome rooftop bar was buzzing with mainly Italians and a few tourists. I found it through searching for the best rooftop bars in Rome Italy and our Foodie Tour happened to finish pretty close so we figured we’d check it out. It feels sexy and modern and is definitely the place to see and be seen.

Terrazza Les Étoiles Roof Garden is surrounded by shrubbery so not all tables have a view. However they have a 360 degree vista point for taking in the breathtaking views of Rome and Saint Peters which is the prime spot for photos. Think elevated views that span from the Vatican to the Monte Mario Astronomical Observatory, Villa Borghese Park to Villa Medici, Piazza Venezia, the Gasometer, and hills of Frascati.

I highly recommend making reservations at Terrazza Les Étoiles as this rooftop bar in Rome gets packed even off season.
Pros: The views and vibe. I’d 100% come back here.
Cons: it gets very smoky.

The Court Cocktail Bar Rome
The Court Bar Rome Palazzo Manfredi is one of my favorite bars I’ve ever visited worldwide. Although it’s not actually on the rooftop it feels like it with it’s open air, uninterrupted views of the Colosseum. The Court Cocktail Bar is an upscale cocktail bar and as they describe it “a modern monument to mixology which stands on a panoramic terrace overlooking the Colosseum and the Ludus Magnum ancient monuments of Imperial Rome”.

We had just booked to go for pre dinner drinks but ended up canceling and staying there for hours. The fact there was a concert going on right in front of the Colosseum complete with a laser light show and some fireworks (pretty sure they were illegal) definitely helped. But the view!!!

Every drink we ordered was beautifully presented, using innovative ingredients and techniques, and well balanced (check out the video below). Yes, there’s a minimum spend but it’s excellent value when you see the Aperitivo you get. Think truffle pizza, olives, crisps, and nuts. I’d have paid for the view alone.

Dress up, show up, give yourself time, and enjoy this stunning, historical setting.

The Court Bar Rome pros and cons
Pro tip: we walked to The Court Bar Rome as we couldn’t find a taxi or uber as there was a concert on and I carried my heels to change into once we got there.
Pros: The view, service, elevated Instagram worthy cocktails, and aperitivo. I’m calling it a rooftop bar even though it’s a terrace and not on the top floor as the views make it feel like it is and one I’ll return to every time we visit Rome.
Cons: You can only Book The Court Bar Rome 1 week in advance so mark your calendar to book as soon as reservations open for the date you want as this place is hot!

Rome rooftop bars I can live without
While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with these rooftop bars, they just weren’t our favorites or one’s we’d make the effort to return to.
Hey Guey Rooftop Bar at Hotel Chapter Roma
Don’t get me wrong, I highly recommend staying at the hotel and going to the bar if you’re staying there. The location is very central and convenient and I can’t fault the friendly service so if you’re in the area it’s worth popping in. However, the views didn’t blow my mind like they did at The Court Cocktail Bar or Terrazza Les Étoiles.

The cocktails aren’t anything you’re going to write home about or rush to photograph and it’s also very small so you do need to book in advance.

Santa Cocktail Club Rome
Santa Cocktail Club Rome is Hotel L’Orologio rooftop bar and I had really high expectations it, as all of the best rooftop bars in Rome articles, and our hotel recommended it. However, you have to know where to sit. Make sure to request a table on the backside with cathedral views when you make your reservation. If you get sat at the front of the hotel like we did the views really aren’t anything special. We asked to move but they were fully booked.

However, if you go around the back, it’s actually quite pretty. We just didn’t realize this until we were leaving for our dinner reservation and it was too late to move.

The cocktail menu also wasn’t anything special. Would we go back? Maybe if we got a table on the backside but probably not as there are so many other rooftop bars to try and some like the Manfredi Court Cocktail Bar we’d prefer to go back to.

Where to drink in Style: Rooftop bars in Rome
The rooftop bars in Rome on my bucket list to try next are:
- Vista Trastevere Roof Bar & Restaurant panoramic terrace.
- Mùn Rooftop Cocktail Bar at DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti.
- Six Senses Romo NOTOS Rooftop Bar if you’re looking for live music sessions, DJ sets, and food-forward pop ups.
- The rooftop garden over the eternal city: Terrace Bramante. We wanted to go here but we were too sweaty the day we were close as we went during heatwave and this isn’t somewhere you go casually dressed. This multi-level terrace has one of the best panoramic views of the “eternal city” and is conveniently located by Palazzo Navona.
