Championing Change: Advancing Menstrual Health Education with Kate Wahl

Kate Wahl, a PhD student in Women+ and Children’s Health Sciences (WACH) at the University of British Columbia and WHRC trainee, recently submitted a short video presentation to the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) 2024 Talk Competition. Kate’s submission was entitled “Periods: How menstrual health education for all makes the difference,” and can be viewed here.

In her PhD work, Kate leverages qualitative research methods to create and evaluate tools to communicate research evidence with stakeholders including healthcare providers, policy makers and the general public. These tools include patient decision aids, education programs, and storytelling. In her submission to the IHDCYH 2024 Talk Competition, Kate investigated how education on menstrual health can create changes in knowledge and attitudes about menstruation among young people. She highlights the potential benefit of short education sessions.

Kate remains dedicated to advancing the health of women and gender diverse people, and her work is a testament to the incredible work being done by members of the Women’s Health Research Cluster. To explore more about her research, visit her website and member profile.
