Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves McConaughey are raising some good people, and making sure their teen and tween years are all about feeling charitable, happy, and secure. In fact ,in a recent interview with People, Camila talked about being a mom of two teens and one tween and how it’s a learning experience for everyone.
“I don’t truly believe in a parent [that] tells me like, ‘Oh, my teenagers are perfect.’ They’re trying to figure it out, it’s a complex stage, but also just beautiful. You get to become, still parents, but also friends,” she said, also adding that they’re trying to make good humans by teaching then to give back. “Honestly, we all know as parents, you can only do your best. Kids are going to do what they’re going to do. But we can try our best. So I’m hoping that because they grew up with this hands-on experience of giving back, of doing community work, that they will carry that on.”

Like many parents, and like many celebrity parents, they’re teaching their kids to be charitable. So during the same chat, she dove into what exactly the family of five does to give back.
“We’ve been doing the foundation since Levi was born, so they’ve been seeing what we do throughout their whole lives,” she said. “And we get them as active as much as they can, but we also do a lot of things with them with other organizations. So Meals on Wheels Thanksgiving is part of our Thanksgiving routine where we get over there and do the new deliveries. Any country we go to, any location we go to work, we always end up doing some form of charity things.”

For those who don’t know, McConaughey and Camila originally met in 2006 by chance at a bar, and five years later, they got engaged on Christmas Day in 2011. Less than a year later, they wed on June 9, 2012. They share three children together named Levi, born in July 2008, Vida, born in Jan 2010, and Livingston, born in Dec 2012.
In a previous interview with SheKnows in 2022, Alves talked about healthy meal times with her kids, and how she wants them to be heard with every topic in their household. “We have a lot of dialogue,” she said. “I really like the kids to be able to express themselves and how they feel.”
