What’s the highlight of your day so far? Mine was finding out that Katie Holmes got highlights.
On Tuesday, May 6, the 46-year-old shared an Instagram post of her outfit for the Poker Face season two premiere party. She was all dressed in a floral suit, which should’ve taken up most of the evening’s style-focused attention. And yet, it was her new hair color that I can’t stop talking about.
Katie Holmes’ New Hair Color
Styled in big, messy beach waves (she’s been loving the style, and we have, too), Holmes’ famous long locks were considerably lighter around her face. Though she’s dabbled with highlights recently, this shade was blonder than we’ve been used to seeing for a good while. The bleach was weaved into her hair in such an expert way that I might go so far as to call her color… bronde?
Although the actress didn’t tag her colorist, I know she’s seen Luis Eduardo Perez at Julien Farel salon in the past. The last time she saw him, they worked out a “rich, dimensional brunette hair color.” But spring is officially here, and it’s time to lighten up.

Katie Holmes’ Waves
Now, about that hair texture. Tighter than her mermaid waves for Paris Fashion Week in March, Holmes’ lengthy strands—they tickled the waist of her suit jacket—looked like they’d been salt sprayed and flip-of-the-wrist flat ironed by the best of them. It’s hard to compete in the curl department when your costar is Natasha Lyonne, but she held her own.
The rest of her glam was equally cool girl, complete with a lightly black-rimmed eye, mauve-y nude lip, and dewy face. Her mani was nude, and judging by her grin while posing with her costars, her excitement for the new show was there.

That’s a good lesson to consider as you think about booking your hair appointment, actually. You don’t need a good poker face if your color is this great; your smile will be the last thing we analyze.
