Trigger Point season 3 ending explained, including other spoilers

Warning: The Trigger Point season 3 has not aired on ITV yet, but for those who have watched all episodes or aren’t spoiler averse, please read on.

National treasure Vicky McClure is back on our screens once more, teaming up with once again with Line of Duty and Bodyguard‘s Jed Mercurio, for series 3 of Trigger Point, which follows a group of bomb disposal officers, known as EXPOs, as they are tasked with preventing explosive threats and terrorist attacks around London.

This time around, it seems that the threat in question is personal. Someone is out for revenge, targeting specific characters for their previous wrongs.

On her character Lana’s journey in series 3, Vicky McClure herself has said: “She’s not coping. Lana is a strong individual, and she prides herself on perfectionism, but I believe we quickly see that facade beginning to shatter. We’re aware from the previous two series that she has endured significant loss, which was inevitably going to catch up with her, and this is the onset of it.

“So we will be addressing PTSD, alongside her struggle with tinnitus, and her reliance on medication for support. She’s quite an isolated character at the start of the series.”

Here is Glamour‘s round-up of noteworthy Trigger Point season 3 spoilers and the ending unpacked. Brace yourselves.

Trigger Point season 3 ending explained

Lana and her team have been pursuing serial killer Steven Wyles (Jason Flemyng) throughout the series, and the final episode sees their mission come to a dramatic head.

It transpires that he is avenging the deaths of his colleagues at a construction firm in the 1990s, who developed cancer years later after working on the Coldmarsh project. They weren’t told the buildings they were demolishing were packed with deadly asbestos, which led to them all contracting nasty illnesses. It seems that Steven has as well, as we see him having coughing fits and struggling to breathe.

His ultimate plan, after systematically killing everyone he believed to be involved in the cover-up, to avenge his friends, was to blow up a building with the CEO he believed was responsible inside, also killing himself in the process.
