Ukrainian drone manufacturer General Chereshnya and U.S.-based Wilcox Industries have announced the creation of a joint venture to produce FPV drones and interceptor drones in the United States, according to Militarnyi.
The partnership centers on establishing localized drone production on U.S. soil, with an initial focus on the American defense market and Pentagon orders, while also keeping export opportunities to other countries under consideration.
The immediate relevance of the move is tied to rising U.S. demand for low-cost tactical drones and interceptors, particularly as Washington expands procurement channels for combat-proven unmanned systems and draws on battlefield lessons from Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian company, the cooperation will combine Ukrainian combat experience and drone technology development with Wilcox’s engineering and scientific-industrial base.
General Chereshnya said: “The key goal of the partnership is to substantially improve and develop Ukrainian systems and technologies using the partner’s best practices and scientific and technical base. We will use all possible technical and component solutions to jointly create the best drones in the world.”
The joint venture is expected to focus primarily on meeting U.S. legal, security, and procurement requirements. To meet those standards, the companies said component manufacturing will be localized within the United States.
The companies also said the project is being structured to comply fully with U.S. market standards, including planned Blue UAS certification, which is critical for official use by U.S. government agencies and defense institutions.
Blue UAS certification is a U.S. Department of War-backed framework that verifies unmanned aerial systems for cybersecurity, supply chain security, and operational compliance, making it a key requirement for military and federal adoption.
Wilcox Industries founder and chief executive James Teetzel said in a statement: “We are very pleased and proud of the partnership with General Chereshnya. To work with a company that withstood the impossible and entered the fight when Ukraine’s sovereignty was under threat is exactly the spirit Wilcox would like to be part of. For me, it has been a life’s work to build Wilcox from nothing but a vision. I have no doubt that combining our manufacturing capabilities and Wilcox engineering resources with General Chereshnya’s technologies will bring considerable benefit to the United States.”
The venture will focus on FPV drones and interceptor drones. FPV systems are typically low-cost, highly maneuverable unmanned aircraft used for direct strike, reconnaissance, or battlefield targeting roles. Interceptor drones are designed specifically to engage and neutralize hostile drones, a capability that has become increasingly important in modern conflict environments saturated with unmanned systems.
The project is now entering what the companies described as an approval phase. Before the joint venture can be formally registered, the partners said they must secure support from state leadership and relevant institutions.
According to Militarnyi, General Chereshnya and Ukrainian Defense Drones Tech are among the Ukrainian participants. The first phase is expected to conclude in early March, when prototype supply orders worth approximately $150 million are due to be placed.
