W Prague review: A stylish luxury hotel near Old Town Prague

Last Updated on January 4, 2026 by Eve Dawes

Why W Prague is the perfect luxury stay in Prague

W Prague (formerly Grand Hotel Europa) near Old Town Prague, Czech Republic was our very first W Hotel stay and it certainly won’t be our last. As Marriott Titanium members, we naturally started our Prague hotel search with Marriott properties, prioritizing five-star luxury, a central Old Town location, and consistently strong reviews. From the building’s history, it was originally the Grand Hotel Europa, and striking interiors to the dining, atmosphere and impeccable service, keep reading this W Prague hotel review to find out exactly why W Hotels have firmly earned a place on our list of go-to luxury stays.

W Prague hotel location

W Prague is located right on the iconic Wenceslas Square in Prague, Czech Republic. Although it’s technically in the New Town, it’s only a 10 minute walk to the Old Town Square and Astronomical Clock.

Right now, Wenceslas Square is under major construction and is set to be until 2027. We didn’t hear any construction noise, it just means it’s not as pretty and the Christmas Markets have moved.

W Prague history

The W Prague has a long history, along with several name changes. It was built in 1872 and evolved into it’s Art Nouveau form in 1905. Originally known as the Hotel Sroubek (after its owner Karel Sroubek), it was renamed Grand Hotel Europa in 1950, before closing in 2013 which is where W Hotels stepped in. They spent years painstakingly restoring the historic heritage side of the building to it’s former grandeur before reopening in 2024.

Not only did they take over the iconic Grand Hotel Evropa, they also added a new nine-story wing which is far more modern and gives guests the choice to book a modern or heritage room. With a total of 161 stylish rooms and suites, the hardest part is choosing which room to stay in.

The hotel seamlessly blends the historic Art Nouveau architecture with contemporary design elements, creating a unique and luxurious atmosphere. W Prague.

W Prague rooms

There are 161 rooms and suites to choose from, and yes, all of them have both heating and air-conditioning. If you want to stay in the heritage side, look for rooms with ‘Bohemia’ in the name. We love history and wanted to feel like we were in Prague so we booked a heritage room and requested to use one of our free room upgrades.

Available room types:

  • Wonderful King
  • Wonderful Twin
  • Cozy Bohemia King
  • Cozy Bohemia Balcony
  • Cool Corner King
  • Cool Corner Bohemia King
  • Fantastic Bohemia Suite (which is where we stayed)
  • Marvelous Suite
  • Marvelous Bohemia Suite
  • Wow Bohemia Duplex (this seriously deserves Wow in it’s name)

W Prague hotel room review | Fantastic Bohemia Suite

We used some of our “Nightly Upgrade Awards” to request an upgrade to specific rooms and were given the stunning Fantastic Bohemia Suite. The high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows made this 35sqm/377sqft room seem even bigger than it was. There are a few different versions of this suite, some with their sinks behind the bed and some with balconies.

We got lucky and had a separate bathroom and balcony which was fantastic for watching the fireworks on New Year’s Eve. While fireworks aren’t legal in Prague for NYE, it didn’t stop people, so if you want to watch them, it’s worth upgrading to a balcony room.

The King bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable, we heard very little noise from outside (although we did hear the base from music at times) and the Christmas tree was a warm and special festive touch for the holidays. Only 4 rooms have Christmas trees for the holidays so that made it feel extra special.

The shower was huge, but the only downside was the shower water pressure. Because the ceilings are so high, the rainfall shower didn’t have enough pressure to rinse out shampoo so we just used the handheld shower.

Room amenities include: Living/sitting area, wireless internet, complimentary wired internet, complimentary water, coffee/tea maker, hair dryer, safe, iron and steamer, minibar, retractable TV, robe and slippers.

W Prague dining and bars

There are a few dining options at the W Prague: Le Petit Beefbar Au Grand Café, The W Lounge, and Minus One Bar. There’s also the seasonal roof terrace bar which was closed when we stayed in December-January.

Le Petit Beefbar Au Grand Café

Le Petit Beefbar Au Grand Café is where you can find breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. It was the prettiest place we ate in Prague, with large chandeliers, dark wood, marble and high ceilings. It was truly a special place to start the day with both buffet and a la carte breakfast options.

When we checked in as Marriott Members we were given the choice of Marriott points or daily breakfast so we opted for breakfast and we’re so glad we did. The breakfast buffet consisted of pastries, breads, yoghurt, fruit, cereals, and juices but the a la carte menu is where they excelled. Definitely order the truffle scrambled eggs or eggs benedict, and if you’re going in the Winter, their ginger shots are a must.

Our New Year’s Eve dinner at Le Petit Beefbar was nothing short of spectacular. Yes, you’re paying luxury prices for it but you’re getting luxury ingredients, service and live music. The set menu included all you can eat oysters and a welcome glass of Perrier Jouet, Fois Gras, Caviar, the most tender lobster, juicy New York strip steak, truffled mash potatoes, and 3 different desserts.

W Lounge

The W lounge bar is great for lunch, drinks or a more casual dinner. Their truffle smash burger and Club Sandwich didn’t disappoint!

Minus One Bar Prague

If you’re looking for craft cocktails or a cocktail experience head down to Minus One Bar. This initmate art-deco bar is ideal for a night-cap or you can book to do their Occulto Experience: Fine Cocktail Dining Tasting Menu featuring 6 cocktails paired with amuse-bouches, palate cleansers, and petit fours.

Above Rooftop

This is their seasonal roof terrace bar that’s normally open from April-September, depending on the weather, for light bites and drinks with a view.

W Prague amenities

We stayed at the W Hotel Prague over New Years when it was snowing most days, so we were grateful to have so many amenities for convenience. Including:

W Hotel Prague AWAY spa

One of the lovely benefits of being a hotel guest at the W Prague is complimentary access to the AWAY spa facilities (reservations required). This is not your bright white, light and airy spa. This is a cozy, dark and moody underground spa with no windows.

You can use their small indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, relaxation room, and something I’d never seen before: a motion activated All-Season Water Experience. Where you walk through the 4 seasons complete with mood lighting, changing music and water temperatures. Starting in Summer with warm showers and mists, and ending in a snow shower for Winter.

There is also a full spa treatment menu (charges apply) for massages, facials, and scrubs.

W Prague service

The service is where the W Prague really shines. Rarely have I experienced such attentive and friendly service from the moment we arrived until we departed, nothing was too much trouble.

We had an early flight so arrived to the hotel early in the morning before our room was ready. Upon arrival our bags were taken, doors were opened, and the reception desk were ready with a smile to assist us. We were seated in the Bisou Lounge and served hot apple punch while we relaxed and waited to check in. Instead of waiting for our room at the hotel we headed out to explore the city, and the team called us as soon as our room was ready.

The restaurant and bar staff were friendly and knowledgeable, special mention to Variz for making our New Year’s Eve meal at Le Petit Beefbar so special. The room was kept spotless and tidy, from organizing my toiletries to coiling up my charging cables. The Whatever Whenever staff were wonderful at sending up everything from ice to hair straighteners and hats off to the doormen who were always there with a smile even when it was snowing out. It’s this level of service that will have us booking W Hotels worldwide again and again.

Best place to spend New Year’s in Prague

If you’re planning on spending NYE in Prague I can’t recommend the W Prague hotel and Le Petite Beefbar enough. One for the convenience factor and two for the experience. Our New Year’s Eve dinner at Le Petit Beefbar was magical in every way from the food to the service and live music. I loved being able to head downstairs for dinner without needing to think about transport or even grabbing a coat.

The W Prague Le Petite Beefbar Grand Cafe New Years Eve set menu included all you can eat oysters and a welcome glass of Perrier Jouet, followed by Fois Gras toast, scallops tartare with caviar, spinach salad, lobster satay, Creekstone Farm NY strip steak, truffled mash potatoes, creamy risotto, and 3 different desserts.

The best part was that we could end the night watching the fireworks from our balcony in our robes with a night cap.

Book the W Prague hotel

Not only is Prague one of the most beautiful cities in the world, I believe the W Prague is one of their most beautifully restored hotels with it’s stained-glass panel above the lobby door, spiral staircases, chandeliers, sexy dark wooden panels and gold accents paying tribute to the Grand Hotel Europa. Here’s how to book:
