Why Stress, Anxiety, and Trauma Keep Coming Back:
By Beatty Carmichael
Stress isn’t the enemy. Neither is anxiety. And trauma isn’t the real problem at all.
The problem is that these things keep coming back. No matter what you try, no matter how hard you work, no matter how much you want relief.
And if you’ve ever wondered why stress won’t go away or why anxiety keeps coming back, I’ve got news for you. It’s not because you’re weak. It’s not because you’re broken. And it’s definitely not because healing “just takes time.”
For the last nine years, I’ve worked with women at one of the largest addiction-recovery centers in the country that houses more than 500 women. Different ages. Different stories. Different backgrounds. But the same stubborn patterns: overwhelming stress, recurring anxiety, trauma that kept echoing long after the moment had passed. Women who were doing everything right. Women who were fighting with everything they had.
And then something unexpected happened. Something that changed everything for them… and eventually for me.
When I began guiding these women through a process I now call the Prayer of Freedom, the shift was unmistakable. Eighty-seven percent of them began experiencing real breakthrough — not coping, not improving, but actually getting free. Women who lived under emotional trauma, panic cycles, anxiety spikes, depression, bipolar loops, addiction cravings, and even chronic pain and illness… were finally breaking out of the patterns.
And many experienced those changes in hours, not months.

If you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, or trauma that keeps coming back, what I saw in these women is likely the same thing happening in you. Read on …
Why Anxiety Keeps Coming Back (The Layer Everyone Misses)

What shocked me most wasn’t how deep the pain was — it was how consistent the root was. Women from completely different walks of life kept running into the same invisible wall. Meditation helped. Therapy helped. Breathing practices, journaling, and exercise all helped. But none of them kept the stress or trauma from resurfacing.
It didn’t matter how hard they worked on the symptoms if the spiritual root beneath those symptoms stayed in place.
And I’m not talking about religion. I’m talking about spiritual laws — unseen forces that shape how we think, feel, react, and carry trauma. These laws operate whether you believe in them or not. And once you see them, it becomes obvious why people stay stuck in anxiety that keeps coming back or in emotional patterns that never fully lift.
Patterns don’t lie. If something keeps repeating, it isn’t random. It’s rooted.
Let me show you what this looks like in real women’s lives…
Susan: Twenty Years of Rheumatoid Arthritis — Gone
I met Susan after she had lived with rheumatoid arthritis for twenty years. The swelling, the pain, the stiffness, the discouragement —had all become part of her identity. Doctors could help her manage it, but nothing ever made it disappear.
When she walked through the Prayer of Freedom process, the spiritual root behind that pain surfaced. It was tied to a grief-filled conflict from years earlier — something she had carried quietly for far too long. When she released it, the shift began almost immediately. Within a day she was pain-free and moving freely. Four weeks later she was still pain-free. Her doctor even ordered new medical tests just to understand what had happened — and when the results came back, there was no sign of arthritis anywhere. It had vanished.
So What’s Actually Going On?
After working with thousands of people, here’s what I’ve found: most emotional and physical battles don’t begin in the mind or the body. They begin on the spiritual layer, long before the symptoms ever appear.
Here’s the simple explanation…
Each of us has a moral standard written into our conscience — placed there by the Creator. When we violate that standard, or when someone violates that standard against us, something happens inside. A spiritual pathway opens.
That pathway gives rise to what I call a spiritual root — an internal anchor point where emotional and physical symptoms begin to grow. You can’t see it, but you can feel its effects. And it shows up in very familiar ways: anger turning into irritability, resentment into toxic stress, bitterness into heaviness or depression, fear into anxiety that keeps coming back, abuse into trauma responses and emotional volatility, shame into identity wounds, and unresolved hurt into migraines, stomach issues, chronic pain, or fatigue.

Over time that spiritual pathway expands, and the spiritual roots that grow from it begin to manifest through the body or the emotions. This is why someone can treat symptoms for years yet never find lasting relief. Nothing sticks because the pathway is still open — and the root is still alive.
Here’s the progression I’ve seen over and over:
- A spiritual pathway opens — either by something we do or by something done to us.
- A spiritual root forms — anchoring emotional or physical symptoms in place.
- Symptoms begin showing up — anxiety, trauma responses, depression, chronic pain.
- And until the pathway is closed and the root removed, nothing truly changes.
But when the pathway is closed — when the spiritual root is released — the symptoms lose their foundation and everything begins to shift. That’s exactly why the women at the recovery center kept experiencing breakthrough after breakthrough. And just as it happens for them nearly 90% of the time… it can happen for you too.
Lanita: Trauma So Deep It Stole Her Vision
I met a woman named Lanita whose eyesight had deteriorated so badly from past trauma that she was legally blind. All she could see was a blur a few inches from her face. As we talked, the spiritual root behind her condition surfaced — years-old trauma from an abusive ex-boyfriend.
When I guided her through the Prayer of Freedom process, she released that root… and her eyesight cleared within minutes. It wasn’t gradual — her vision returned to 20/20 almost instantly. I held up a book about 3 feet from her and she read the page clearly, stunned at what had just happened.
Ashlee: Childhood Trauma, Crushing Anxiety, and 400mg of Seroquel
Ashlee was abused by men when she was seven years old, and instantly fear, panic and depression set in. At fourteen she finally went to a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with severe anxiety, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. When I met her twelve years later, she was taking 400mg of Seroquel plus multiple other medications just to function.
Then, when she walked through the Prayer of Freedom process outlined my book, The Prayer of Freedom, the spiritual root connected to that childhood trauma surfaced — the identity wound, the internal blame, the spiritual imprint of what she endured. She released it, and by the next morning everything had changed. Panic lifted. Anxiety vanished. Her mind cleared. The change was so complete that her psychiatrist took her off all her medications that very day.
Her identity, which had been shattered for years, was finally restored.
You’re Not Stuck — You’ve Just Been Working on the Wrong Layer

Most healing tools focus on the body or the mind. But the deepest wounds — the ones that keep replaying — live in the spiritual layer. And when that layer is healed, the symptoms that grew from it finally begin to dissolve. Not because you tried harder. Not because you finally found the “right technique.” But because you addressed the cause, not the effects.
This is why so many women feel like they’re doing everything right but nothing changes. It’s not your fault. You’ve just never been shown the root.
Breakthrough isn’t complicated. It just happens on a deeper level than most people ever realize. And once you go to that level… everything can change.
And here’s the encouraging truth…
If 87% of the women who walked through the Prayer of Freedom process — many battling trauma, addiction, bipolar disorder, anxiety, chronic pain, or emotional wounds — could experience complete freedom simply by using the step-by-step worksheet in The Prayer of Freedom, then there is real hope it can happen for you or someone you love, too.
If you’re tired of living with stress that never settles, anxiety that keeps coming back, or trauma that won’t let go — and you’re ready to experience real freedom — you can get the full step-by-step Prayer of Freedom process in my book, The Prayer of Freedom, available wherever books are sold.
You don’t have to stay stuck anymore.
