57 Best Short Hairstyles And Haircuts to Try in 2025

Ever get the urge to chop all your hair off? You’re in good company, since short hairstyles are massively trending. According to Google search data, “short hairstyles” is one of the most Googled beauty trends around the world – and the UK searches for this term most.

It seems as though more of us than ever are seriously contemplating our boldest look yet. It’s easy to see why. There’s something oh-so satisfying about shearing away excess layers and swapping long, heavy hair for something that feels more free and lightweight – whether you’re looking for a style that’s soft and short like a choppy pixie crop, or just fancy lifting your bob a few inches higher. Either way, lopping the lot away can feel utterly liberating. Even better, it can release you from long-winded blow-drying and styling, too.

What are the biggest short haircuts right now?

Skimmed strands are debatably the coolest cut you can get at the moment – and with loads of celebrities and influencers jumping on board, there’s plenty of inspo if you’re tempted.

According to hair pro Larry King, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer as 2025 will be very much about experimenting with hairstyles that are personal and bespoke to you. “When thinking about short haircuts, there is so much variety – from the pixie cuts, to short mullets, to maybe longer at the front, shorter at the back” he says. Short hair in general “is going to be big,” says Larry. “I think girls are going to really move forward into short hair. You’re seeing lots of models do it right now, you’ve seen it on the catwalks quite a lot. It gives you so much individuality and makes you stand out – its really striking.”

However, there are some styles that are leading the pack…

The crob

For 2025, crobs (or cropped bobs) that fall somewhere between a pixie and a bob are dominating the trends. We spoke to the experts for our 2025 hair trends report and those shorter cuts are set to headline. Unsurprisingly, we can thank the ’90s once again for its influence. Celebrity hairstylist and ColorWow international creative director, Dom Seeley, told GLAMOUR: “I’m foreseeing shorter hair, for sure. Think: cropped hair that’s not as short as a pixie but shorter than a bob, like Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘90s hair,” he says. “Or textured, shorter bobs with wispier lengths and movement throughout,” he adds. The ’90s have given us plenty of midi and long inspo lately, “but we’re going to see more of this ‘90s crop come forward for the shorter hair girls that don’t want to brave a pixie just yet,” Dom told us.

Ryan Forsythe, Artistic Education Director at Trevor Sorbie agrees. For a softer, more feminine take on the pixie, “the ‘grown-out’ pixie is gaining popularity,” he told us. “This version offers a less drastic approach, with slightly longer layers that can also be sculpted into an androgynous look,” he said. Celebrity fans include Sabrina Elba and Florence Pugh.
