If you’ve landed on this page, it’s probably because you or the teen in your life has some sort of fascination with Jujutsu Kaisen. You don’t have to be the most experienced anime connoisseur to know that Jujutsu Kaisen (or JJK for short) was one of the hottest anime series to come out recently. And with the new Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution movie arriving in the US very soon, it’s only right that the popular anime is back in the spotlight yet again.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution is a compilation film that’ll only be shown in theaters starting Friday, December 5. It’ll be a recap of the “Shibuya Incident Arc,” with the last episode of Season 2 shown before the first two episodes of Season 3, the “Culling Game Arc.” It’s been almost two years since we last caught up with our favorite group of Sorcerers back in Shibuya, and it’ll be another month or so until Season 3 comes out. So, for now, the Execution movie is the only taste of JJK we’ll get. What’s The Best Order to Watch Jujutsu Kaisen?
Okay, now that we’ve figured out where we’re watching Jujutsu Kaisen, we need to decide how to watch it. So far, the series consists of one movie and two seasons. It was season 1 that was originally released back in October 2020, followed by the movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, that was released in December of 2021; with Season 2 being released in July of 2023. It could be easier to watch it in the order that it was released. However, some fans have suggested switching it up, especially if it’s their first time watching. 1. Jujutsu Kaisen 0
Although JJK 0 was released after the first season, it’s technically the beginning of the story. It’s considered the prequel to season 1 that introduces important characters that are mentioned in the first season before making an appearance in season 2. It also serves as a great explainer to the mission behind Jujutsu High and the series in total. However, this movie and season 1 or season 2 aren’t connected per se. It just serves as prior information to what you’re about to watch later in the series, if you watch it first.
2. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1
After Jujutsu Kaisen 0, we’re going straight into season 1, where all the action takes place with the main character, Yuji Itadori. After swallowing an old finger, Itadori ends up becoming a vessel for the King of Curses, Sukuna, and the story truly begins. We’re taken through a modern-day world that’s filled with sorcerers who protect everyday people from the dark curses of evil.
3. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2
From the first season into the second, we follow a group of sourcers whose goal is to protect the rest of humanity from dark curses and spirits. For the most part, it’s pretty entertaining to learn about other characters’ back stories and curse techniques, but it isn’t until the last few episodes of season 2 that all the jaw-dropping scenes take place. This will lead you right up to watch season 2 when it’s out.
