How to Choose the Best Neutral Nail Polish for Deep Skin Tones
Settling on a neutral nail color has its challenges for melanated skin tones. For one thing, Black and brown skin is diverse; there isn’t just one natural shade. When it comes to deep complexions, finding a hue that is soft and complementary to your undertone is key. True nude polishes tend to be too light and can appear washed out, while black can be too harsh. “The most flattering neutrals are the ones that enhance your natural warmth and reflect light beautifully rather than disappearing,” says Rebecca Isa, creative director for Zoya.
”Pale, washed-out nudes simply don’t work on darker skin. You need color with substance and saturation,” says Miami nail artist Karyna Kyliushyk. So, instead of gravitating toward typical nude or light colors, the pros recommend opting for a shade that strikes that perfect balance between neutral and natural. According to Isa, there’s a strong shift toward refined neutral nails with finishes that add color and are also fitting with current trends.
