Why we chose JW Marriott hotel Washington DC
We are Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite so we tend to look for Marriott hotels wherever possible. There are a few Marriott hotels to chose from in Washington DC but we chose the JW Marriott Washington DC for it’s location on Pennsylvania Ave and 14th St. It’s one of the most centrally located luxury hotels in the city, just steps from the White House and National Mall.
- White House: 6 min walk
- National Mall: 8 min walk
- National Museum of African American History and Culture: 9 min walk
- Washington, DC (DCA-Ronald Reagan Washington National): 7 min drive
- Dulles Airport: 30-60 minutes depending on traffic
We actually used miles for our stay and then used our upgrade night requests for the upgrade which they honored.

JW Marriott Washington DC review | Hotel, suite and room tour and key differences
In this luxury hotel tour, I’m taking you inside the JW Marriott DC to share an in-depth review of our recent stay. Complete with a tour of both the spacious Large Guest Room with Monument View and the Ambassador Suite. From elegant interiors to well-appointed amenities, I’m sharing everything this property has to offer to help you determine whether it’s the right fit for your DC itinerary.
Which room should I stay in at the JW Marriott Washington DC hotel
Your room choice is going to come down to how much you want to spend (points or money) and how important the view is to you.
A guest room with no view is only $10* less than with a City View so to me that upgrade seems like an easy choice. For about another $50 you can upgrade to a Monument view but some reviews say they can be a minimal partial view. We were disappointed in the size of the Large King Guest Room with Monument View; how dark it was and how small the windows were as it was nothing like the photos on their website. However, the bathroom was much larger than shown.

What I think’s worth splurging on if you’re going to be spending more time at the hotel is the balcony, high floor features. Read how to do that below. Yes, it’s a shared balcony and it’ll set you back about another $160 but the balcony is huge and great for taking photos, and you’ll have views of the Washington Monument! I definitely want to do that on our next stay.

We were so lucky our Marriott Bonvoy upgrade request wasn’t just approved but majorly upgraded to a suite! A suite at the JW Marriott Washington DC is pretty much going to double your cost. We absolutely loved the space, how light it was, and the views were spectacular. Although the bathroom was smaller than in the King Guest Room. Watch the video above to see both rooms and my thoughts on the pros and cons of both.

JW Marriott Hotel Washington DC dining and amenities
Since you can read all about these on their website or any booking site I’ll keep this brief. We ate breakfast in the Executive Lounge and didn’t dine at any of the JW Marriott Washington DC hotel restaurants as we were there to explore the city not never leave the hotel. There are also lots of options close by like The Hamilton (0.1 miles), STK (1 mile), but I highly recommend avoiding The Old Ebbitt Grill which has gone downhill and is very tourisuty, busy and casual.
