Meghan Markle just got candid about one way she is preparing for kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet‘s future, and it has us in our feels. The Duchess of Sussex sat down for The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast and revealed to the IT Cosmetics co-founder that she has an ultra-endearing nighttime ritual.
Almost every evening, she sends an email to her kids. Of course, her 5- and 3-year-old — whom she shares with husband Prince Harry — don’t use email, but Markle created accounts for each of them (with names “you would never guess”) for when they’re older. It’s an idea she got from a mom friend.
“She would just send to [her kids] random pictures, the pictures that you aren’t going to put in a frame,” Markle explained, per People. “I thought it was such a great time capsule to create for them because I used to have scrapbooks and photo albums, but we’re past that generation now.”
” … Before I go to bed almost every night, I email them,” she continued. “Because it doesn’t have to be a heavy lift.”
And we suppose it really doesn’t have to be. While you’re texting your mom friends about the hilarious thing your kid said or sending your family new pictures, you could also copy those things over to an email and send them to your kids. Not every message has to be an in-depth, heartfelt tribute to their future selves. (Although they certainly could be!)

“They will end up at one point in their life, maybe when they’re 16 or when they’re 18, that I say, ‘Here’s an email that I’ve been keeping for you,’” Markle continued.
Lima was quick to say the poignant act was giving her “full body chills,” and Markle agreed it was “making [her] emotional.”
“For them to be able to look back and go, ‘Oh my gosh, she has loved us so much!’” the As ever founder continued. “And that’s, I think, the best part about being a mom, and we go back to like, a love language or gifts. It’s not about the grandeur of a gesture. It’s about, ‘I see you, I’m nurturing you, and I see you so deeply. And I love being able to see your growth.’”
“And I’m just so proud of them,” she concluded.
And now we have to wonder, what email did Markle send after recording that heartwarming podcast episode?
