Just because someone’s a celebrity doesn’t mean they follow a perfectly curated beauty routine. Case in point: 29-year-old British actress Simone Ashley just walked Vogue through her skin-care regimen and casually dropped two unexpected details: that she uses body lotion on her face and only recently started taking sunscreen seriously. Ahead, a closer look at why both have earned a spot in her routine.
Why Simone Ashley Uses Body Lotion on Her Face
“I use body lotion on my face before I put my makeup on, just because it doesn’t roll,” Ashley says, referring to pilling, when product beads up on the skin. “You know when you use certain moisturizers and they react to your makeup and then it starts rolling? I usually do my makeup when I’m in a rush, so I haven’t got time for that.”
Her go-to is the La Roche-Posay Lipikar Daily Moisturizing Lotion ($20), which, according to the brand’s website, is actually formulated for both face and body, making it a much less unconventional choice than it might seem. In a way, it’s not far off from using a hydrating primer.
Why Simone Ashley Only Recently Started Taking Sunscreen Seriously
“I had my first facial back in 2021,” she continues in the Vogue video. “Then I was transitioned to the dark side, and I realized how great it is to take care of your skin. I was very naive, and I thought because I have dark skin, I didn’t need to use sunscreen.” Since then, she’s changed her approach, now recognizing that “dark skin needs sun protection just as much as any other skin.” The one she uses on-camera is Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 ($38)—a great choice.
