Spate Reports Spring Hair Color Trends
Major players on the scene include the early 2000s glam cherry cola color and the more recent cozy milk tea hair trend. And this spring isn’t the first time food and beverage-inspired beauty and hair trends have taken off. Everything from makeup to fragrance and everything in between has gone in this direction. In fact, Spate considers ‘food’ one of its top three trend-makers in beauty.
“Consumers are willing to splurge on small, but sensorial items when it comes to beauty and, of course, the food category is full of different experiences whether its fragrance, the actual taste, texture and visual aesthetic of food [which] are really appealing to consumers,” explains Spate cofounder Yarden Horwitz.
Milk Tea Hair Is Gaining Traction

A newcomer on the scene, milk tea hair has grown 42.2 percent since last year. And this light, cozy tone is perfect for a spring hair color.
According to Shvonne Perkins, Master Colorist at Madison Reed, this trend is about nailing that “muted, soft cooler side of the color spectrum.” The result is a seamless, milky tone highlighted by a natural, blended root. “With this trend, we’re not seeing the super lengthy root outgrowth of ombré,” Perkins explains, but rather, “A natural root, paired with heavily highlighted hair and all toned to a seamless and soft silvery ash tone mixed with a beige base (usually dark blonde to very light brown or copper penny).”
Cherry Cola Dominates Spring Hair Color Trends

One of the most dominant trends of the year, cherry cola hair is the perfect Y2K comeback look. Popularized by the likes of Dua Lipa and Dove Cameron, cherry cola has exploded online. Growing 265.3 percent year over year, this trend amasses more than 2.3 million views on TikTok a week.
Tracey Cunningham, a celebrity colorist responsible explains that cherry cola is a combination of a “stunning dark wine shades with warm earthy auburns.” This evergreen shade is a bold spring hair color that will have you feeling refreshed and sexy.
