June was almost unconscious when we first arrived.
She looks like so many other Indian street dogs. Sleek, short-haired, kind eyes, a tail that curls. But if you’ve ever loved an animal you might already know how special June is–trusting us completely from the moment we gently lifted her from the side of the highway after she was hit by a car.
It turned out that precious June primarily needed a safe place to rest, pain medicine, nutritious food, and to feel loved. That’s “all” we gave her, yet even to provide these basics requires a complex infrastructure from the phone dispatch center where we assign cases to our various ambulances already on the road, to the medical assessment and medical treatment, to the food preparation and kennel cleaning, and to medical team that vaccinated June against rabies and other dangerous viruses. And finally the institutional inclusion of love. It’s as important as any medicine delivered by a syringe.
Gentle June received love from our entire team, and the donors who do so much to help make sure rescue after rescue gets a beautiful chance to thrive.
